In 1989 Bucharest, a tumultuous year under Ceausescu's rule, Eva's life takes a drastic turn when she and her boyfriend accidentally break a bust of the dictator. Following a confession, Eva is expelled from school and sent to a reformatory, where she meets Andrei and decides to flee Romania with him. Meanwhile, her 7-year-old brother Lalalilu becomes obsessed with the idea that Ceausescu is the reason for Eva's departure, leading him to concoct a plan to take drastic action against the dictator.
