Promise the Moon background

Promise the Moon

A former institutionalized deaf man inherits a ranch and must navigate its daily management after his father's sudden death.

In the Canadian prairies of Butler Hills in 1920, Wilbur Bennett, the owner of the Four Arrows cattle ranch, sends for his 15-year-old son Leviatus, who has been living in a Chicago sanitarium since infancy. Levi is deaf and mute due to poor treatment at the sanitarium, and Wilbur's chief ranch hand Royal Leckner brings along Sophie, an Ojibwa woman who has been looking out for Levi, to ensure his well-being. Upon returning to the ranch, they find Wilbur has passed away, leaving Royal in charge and entrusting him with Levi's care. However, this decision is contested by Wilbur's brother Jimmy and the unscrupulous town banker Sir Robert Butler, who are eager to seize control of the ranch and surrounding land.
