Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, former FBI partners and lovers, are now pursuing new careers. Scully is a staff physician at a Catholic hospital, where she fights to save a young boy with an incurable brain disease. Meanwhile, Mulder is focused on his paranormal research, clipping newspaper articles and writing about his findings. When a special case arises, involving a pedophile priest with alleged psychic visions about a missing FBI Agent, Mulder's expertise is needed, and Scully is brought in to convince him to help.

The reactivation of a dormant case, sparked by a psychic's prophetic visions, brings together Mulder and Scully once again to investigate the disappearance of a fellow FBI agent.
