Steve Ranson, a former Texas Ranger, is hired by Gregory Banion to investigate a series of mysterious attacks on the Trans-Western Railroad's surveying parties. The prime suspect is Jeff Carson, owner of a stage line that will lose business once the railroad is complete. Steve, as the Durango Kid, thwarts an attempt on Carson's life and believes his innocence. Together, they team up with gunsmith Smiley to uncover the true leader of the outlaws.
