Dean Sebastian appoints a new leader for the college's champion cheerleading squad, freshman Whittier, instead of his original choice, captain Tina. Tina, who was planning to make her sycophantic friend her successor, refuses to give up her friend Monica and decides to challenge the dean's authority. Along with Greg, the leader of the male cheerleaders, Tina, Monica, and Greg form a rival squad, welcoming misfits and outcasts, and surprisingly enter the national championship.
