Lady Booby, a lively and lusty wife, has her eye on the attractive villager Joseph Andrews, a footman who is also in love with a country girl named Fanny Goodwill. When Lady Booby's advances are rejected, she fires Joseph and he falls prey to highwaymen who rob him of everything. He is then found and nursed by an innkeeper's maid, but is eventually reunited with his true love, Fanny. Meanwhile, Lady Booby's cousin agrees to marry below his station when he learns the fiancée is Joseph's sister, Pamela.
