State's Attorney

A disillusioned lawyer is caught between his allegiance to a powerful mob and his blossoming emotions for a woman who aims to change his ways.

Tom Cardigan, a lawyer for the mob, is unhappy with his role as a "mouthpiece" for Vanny Powers. He becomes involved with June Perry, who tries to redeem him. However, Powers decides to manipulate Tom into becoming the District Attorney, despite Tom's reservations. Tom's ambition grows as he leaves June for the daughter of another political boss, Ulric. The situation comes to a head when Powers goes on trial for murder, with June as a key witness.
