A free-spirited sister brings a troupe of traveling performers to a small town, disrupting the routine of a local farmer who finds herself drawn into their vibrant and unconventional lifestyle.
New England farmer Jane Falbury agrees to let a group of actors use her barn as a theater, provided they help with farm chores in return. As rehearsals begin, Jane finds herself drawn to the show's director, Joe Ross, who is secretly engaged to the lead actress, Abigail, her sister.
