Hailey Read, a Manhattan therapist, left her job as an assistant DA in Atlanta after a traumatic case involving serial murderer Curtis Cruise, who was convicted of killing seven women. Cruise's attempt to strangle Hailey in court still haunts her, and she's taking medication to cope. Just as Cruise's execution is imminent, a series of murders with a similar M.O. occurs in New York, all connected to Hailey. She discovers Cruise was released from death row and is convinced he's behind the new murders, working his way to her.
