Hannah Swensen, a college-educated baker, owns and operates Hannah's Cookie Jar in the small town of Eden Lake, Minnesota. She prioritizes baking and caring for her cat, while her mother and the townspeople pressure her to find a husband. When her childhood friend and dairy supplier, Ron LaSalle, is found murdered outside the bakery, Hannah finds his body and decides to investigate, despite the police department's lack of expertise. Detective Mike Kingston is brought in from Minneapolis to lead the case, but Hannah's amateur sleuthing and Mike's arrogance lead to tension and a potential compromise: working together to solve the murder.
