Ranger Hopalong Cassidy leaves the service and falls into disrepute after the death of his protégé Tim Mason, whose reputation is tarnished by suspicion of involvement with a group of smugglers. Cassidy teams up with friends California Carlson and Jimmy Rogers to track down the outlaw gang, reclaim his and Tim's good names, and expose a plot to discharge him from the Rangers.
