Wide Open Town background

Wide Open Town

Hoppy, a rugged cowboy, is unexpectedly voted sheriff and joins forces with the Bar 20 gang to thwart a ruthless gang of cattle thieves, whose leader, a cunning and enigmatic woman, harbors a shocking double identity.

Hopalong Cassidy and his friends, Lucky Jenkins and California Carlson, track down stolen cattle to the town of Gunsight, where they find a saloon owned by Belle Langtry, the leader of a gang of outlaws. When the town's mayor and newspaper owner, Jim Stuart, runs a story condemning Belle, she plots to steal a prospector's claim and file it at the county seat. Hoppy stops her and becomes the town marshal, helping the Vigilante Committee catch Belle's henchmen and uncover the gang's hideout. After a gunfight, Hoppy arranges for one of the outlaws to escape, leading him to the hideout where the stolen cattle are grazing. The outlaws ambush Hoppy and his friends, but they fight back and capture Belle, who is then handed over to the authorities.
