Maurice Lesmers, a French actor haunted by his past, finds solace in a small town in Northern Ontario. He takes a job teaching French to a shy student, Allan, and lands the lead role in a local production of Moliere's The Miser. As he becomes close to the stage manager, Michael, Maurice's childhood memories resurface and he seeks comfort in Allan's company, but things become complicated when Allan misinterprets Maurice's attention.
