Aalok Mehta, a multifaceted actor-musician, was born in Edison, New Jersey, and spent most of his childhood in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Growing up, he was fluent in Gujarati and conversational Hindi.
In his teenage years, Aalok excelled as a first-team all-state tennis player in high school, a talent he further developed by playing tennis in college.
Aalok's music career began as a lead singer and songwriter in bands, and he also pursued formal training in Indian Classical Music on the Sitar under the guidance of Pandit Nayan Ghosh at the prestigious Sangit Mahabharati in Mumbai, India.
His debut film, American Chai, which he both scored and starred in as the lead, received the Slamdance and GenArt Film Festival Audience Awards.
Aalok then created the role of Salim in the Original Broadway Cast of Lord Andrew Lloyd Weber and AR Rahman's Bombay Dreams.
Throughout his career, spanning over two and a half decades, Aalok has worked as an interdisciplinary artist in various mediums, including film, television, theatre, voice-over, composition, sound design, and producing.
He has acted in numerous shows, such as Law & Order SVU, Bones, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Joey, NCIS LA, Happy Endings, 30 Rock, Rules of Engagement, and is currently a series regular on the critically acclaimed Amazon series, The Chosen, playing the role of Barnaby.
Aalok's recent film credits include Dr. Brinks & Dr. Brinks on Amazon Prime, Rebecca Miller's She Came To Me, which premiered at the Berlinale and stars Peter Dinklage, Marisa Tomei, and Anne Hathaway, and the Netflix Happy Madison Productions Amy Schumer film Kinda Pregnant.
