Adam Duritz, the multifaceted creative force behind Counting Crows, is a masterful lyricist and pianist who infuses his music with the same passion and energy he brings to his personal relationships and lifestyle. Prior to co-founding Counting Crows, Duritz was an integral part of the Bay Area band The Himalayans, which he left in 1991 to pursue his vision.
During his time with The Himalayans, Duritz and his bandmates recorded material that would eventually become the 2002 album "She Likes the Weather". The album features the track "Round Here", which was later re-recorded for Counting Crows' breakthrough album "August and Everything After". Simultaneously, Duritz was also involved with the San Francisco-based band Sordid Humour, further expanding his musical horizons.
After departing The Himalayans, Duritz co-founded Counting Crows, which quickly gained a devoted following and released their critically acclaimed debut album in 1993. The band embarked on an extensive touring schedule, honing their craft and building a loyal fan base. They returned to the studio in 1996 to record "Recovering the Satellites", a worthy follow-up that solidified their position in the music industry.
The band's subsequent albums, "This Desert Life" (1998) and "Hard Candy" (2002),featured hit singles such as "Hangin' Around" and "American Girls", respectively. Following a period of extensive touring, Counting Crows released their greatest hits album "Films about Ghosts" in 2003, which included new material as well as a Grateful Dead cover song. The album achieved further success, with tracks featured on shows like the WB's One Tree Hill.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Duritz has also ventured into film production, collaborating on the 1997 film "The Locusts" starring Vince Vaughn and Ashley Judd.
