Caroline was born in Victoria, Melbourne, where she spent her formative years surrounded by the vibrant arts scene that would ultimately shape her destiny. She attended Geelong Grammar School, followed by Melbourne Girls Grammar School, where she shared her academic journey with fellow actress Jane Allsop, a future co-star on the popular Australian television series Blue Heelers (1994).
Growing up, Caroline was drawn to the world of music, and her parents, recognizing her passion, enrolled her in the esteemed St. Martin's Youth Arts Centre for kids at the tender age of 10. This marked the beginning of her artistic journey, and Caroline thrived in the program, eventually graduating with her VCE in 1992.
Upon completing her secondary education, Caroline faced a crucial decision: to pursue a degree in law or acting. Her parents, while encouraging her to consider law, also recognized her true calling lay in the arts. Caroline, wanting to keep her options open, applied to both the University of Tasmania's law program and Melbourne University's arts program.
However, during her two-day orientation for law students, Caroline realized that a career in law was not for her. This revelation led her to re-evaluate her priorities, and after a brief stint living in London, she returned to Australia to take up her place at Melbourne University, focusing on her arts degree.
While studying, Caroline became involved with the drama department and formed an all-girl band called Vinyl Discharge, which performed gigs around Melbourne. As the lead singer, Caroline's musical talents were undeniable. However, her passion for acting soon took precedence, and she was inspired by her idols, Cate Blanchett, Jacqueline McKenzie, and Toni Collette.
Caroline's decision to pursue acting led her to sacrifice her musical career and enroll in the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney. During her time at NIDA, she landed a role in the Silverchair music video "Miss You Love" from the album Neon Ballroom, playing the female French actress on screen.
After graduating from NIDA in 1999, Caroline secured an agent and soon landed an audition for Blue Heelers (1994). After two additional auditions, she secured the role and began filming on February 28, 2000. Her first episode, "On The Road," was screened on May 24, 2000.
