Chris Wood was born in Dublin, Ohio, where he spent his childhood developing a passion for creative expression. As a young boy, he would spend his free time writing plays and putting on productions with his sister and their friends. This early start in creative writing and directing laid the foundation for his future endeavors.
At the age of eleven, Chris received his first super-8 camera, which sparked a new interest in filmmaking. He began writing and directing short films, entering them into local film festivals. One of his early films, "PROBLEM: SOLUTION", a story about a boy who loses his contact lens and discovers he's out of solution, received positive reviews from critics.
Chris attended Dublin Jerome High School, where he was encouraged by his drama teacher to pursue a career in acting and writing. In his senior year, his school's theater program produced a play he wrote about a talking dead body discovered on a business' rooftop. Although his mom wasn't a fan of the play, it demonstrated his talent and dedication to his craft.
After high school, Chris attended Elon University in North Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Theatre. Just before graduation, he landed the lead role in the national tour of Spring Awakening, which brought him to Los Angeles for the first time. This opportunity earned him his first representation and soon after, he was cast in a comedy pilot for Amazon Studios.
Although the pilot was not picked up to series, Chris continued to work in television, appearing in shows such as Girls, The Carrie Diaries, Major Crimes, The Vampire Diaries, and the Civil War mini-series Mercy Street.
Chris's breakthrough role came when he was cast as the lead in the limited event series Containment, where he played an Atlanta-based cop trapped in a quarantine zone during a viral outbreak. He then joined the cast of Supergirl, playing the superhero Mon-el, for a two-season arc.
In addition to his acting career, Chris has also returned to his filmmaking roots, writing and directing a short film and working on his first feature film. He has also launched a non-profit campaign called IDONTMIND, aiming to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness by encouraging people to openly discuss their mental health.
Chris's family has played a significant role in his life. His mother works in finance, his father worked in banking, and he has one sister who is a dancer and dance instructor.
