Walter D. Brewer, father of Craig Brewer, held a series of influential corporate positions at Matson Navigation Company, ultimately serving as director of corporate development from 1990 to 1998, when he passed away. This professional trajectory led to the family's relocation from Vallejo, California, where Craig attended elementary school and junior high, to Orange County, and later back to Vallejo in the early 1990s.
Walter's work had a significant impact on the family, as he frequently rented out local theaters to stage Craig's plays, often financing his productions. This support allowed Craig to develop his passion for the performing arts from a young age.
Craig's mother, Gail, was an active member of the Vallejo school board, serving the district twice during their time living there. She was also a dedicated educator, teaching English and Drama in the nearby Mt. Diablo School District. Gail's support for her son's creative pursuits was evident, as she allowed Craig to teach her drama courses at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, California, and produce/direct the school's plays. Craig's original works were often showcased at the school, and his father, Walter, occasionally helped finance these productions, as well as renting out local theaters for additional performances.
Craig's high school friends, including his future wife, Jodi Brewer, and Chris Barela, were an integral part of the drama department's productions at College Park High School. Craig's younger sister, Amanda Brewer, attended the school from 1992 to 1995.
