Daniel Kremer, a filmmaker, film historian, biographer, and professional film archivist, was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Temple University's film program and currently resides in San Francisco.
Kremer's filmmaking career began in 2007, when he directed his first feature, Sophisticated Acquaintance, while living in Philadelphia. His second feature, A Trip to Swadades, won three Best Feature Film awards and was showcased at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
Following the success of A Trip to Swadades, Kremer moved to New York City, where he lived for nearly seven years. During this time, he studied to become an Orthodox rabbi, but ultimately decided to pursue a career in filmmaking instead.
In 2011, Kremer completed his second feature, The Idiotmaker's Gravity Tour, which was primarily shot in India. His subsequent films, Raise Your Kids on Seltzer, Ezer Kenegdo, Overwhelm the Sky, and Even Just, were all shot in the San Francisco Bay Area using an independent filmmaking icon's regular cast and crew.
Kremer's critically acclaimed film, Overwhelm the Sky, was released in the classic epic "roadshow" format and was picked up for distribution by Kino Lorber. His most recent film, It's a Zabriskie, Zabriskie, Zabriskie, Zabriskie Point, is a partly autobiographical cinema-themed essay documentary that has received rave reviews from the British Film Institute and other critics.
Kremer has showcased his work at numerous international film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, the Joseph Conrad Festival in Krakow, Poland, the Maryland International Film Festival, and the San Francisco Independent Film Festival, among others.
As a film scholar, Kremer has written two books, with a third currently in the works. His first book, about the life and career of filmmaker Sidney J. Furie, was published in 2015, while his second book, about Joan Micklin Silver, is forthcoming from Oxford University Press. Kremer's third book, about classic Hollywood director Irving Rapper, is still in the research stages.
In addition to his writing, Kremer has provided DVD/Blu-Ray commentary tracks for sixteen companies and is listed as a Trailers from Hell guru alongside other notable filmmakers and scholars.
