Danny McDermott's journey in the entertainment industry began in 1987, when he started acting in theater productions.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Danny relocated to New York City in the 1990s, where he pursued a career in acting, producing, and stand-up comedy. He quickly became one of the most prominent producers of stand-up comedy in NYC, outside of the comedy clubs, for a period of eight years. During this time, he managed five different venues, hosting eight shows a week, and providing opportunities to thirty comedians every week. Some of the notable comedians who performed at his venues include Jim Gaffigan, Ed Helms, Sarah Silverman, Marc Maron, Bill Burr, and many others.
Danny's comedy venues were so popular that he even co-founded the Comedy Soapbox with Steve Hofstetter.
As a dramatic actor and comedian, Danny was known for his versatility, often getting the opportunity to jump on stage and sing with random bands. He headlined his own shows across from Caroline's Comedy Club in Times Square and also performed in a one-man show, featuring eleven different characters and full costumes, off-Broadway.
Throughout his career, Danny has appeared in numerous theater productions, taking on leading roles in six off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway productions.
In addition to his work in theater, Danny has also ventured into film. He wrote his first screenplay in 1995 and has since had a few small options on scripts. In 2013, he relocated to Los Angeles and produced a comedy series, "Who Killed the Bible Salesman," which premiered at the Hollywood Improv. He continued to work on his writing skills and even produced a reading of one of his scripts, a vigilante/horror/comedy, featuring Christopher Titus, Judd Nelson, and Casper Van Dien.
During the pandemic, Danny has been keeping busy by doing live interviews on various web shows and creating a series of shorts about a man with split personalities living with himself in quarantine, titled "Livin in Corona." His videos have been so well-received that he has been sponsored to host his own show on StreamYard, where he continues to develop several other projects.
World-renowned acting coach Bob McAndrew has praised Danny, saying, "Danny McDermott is a great talent with a wide range of characters. Unusual, exhilarating, and possessing a tremendous presence, he is electrifying. What a wonderful surprise! I couldn't stop laughing during the preview of his one-man show, 'How Not To Act.' While watching his performance, I was reminded of Alex Guinness."
