Gordon Lightfoot, a legendary Canadian singer-songwriter, has left an indelible mark on the music industry. Internationally renowned for his monumental folk/pop/rock hits, such as "Sundown", "If You Could Read My Mind", "Early Mornin' Rain", and "Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald", among many others, his songs have been covered by iconic musicians like Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Glen Campbell, and Don Williams.
Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Lightfoot began his music career in his teenage years, fronting various rock & roll bands in the city. At the tender age of 19, he relocated to Los Angeles, where he worked as a jingle writer for TV commercials. However, he soon returned to Toronto in 1962, becoming a prominent figure in the city's burgeoning folk music scene.
In 1963, Lightfoot made his first records for a local Toronto label, but it wasn't until he signed a major record deal and released his debut album in 1966 that he gained widespread recognition. The 1970s were a particularly successful decade for Lightfoot, with his first top-ten hit, "If You Could Read My Mind", marking the beginning of a string of chart-topping albums and hit songs, including his #1 hit in 1974 with "Sundown".
After nearly two decades of success, Lightfoot took a hiatus, entering self-imposed semi-retirement in the late 1980s. However, he reemerged in 1993 with the highly acclaimed album, "Waiting For You", followed by the critically acclaimed "Painter Passing Through" in 1998.
