Biography

Herbert Wiere's life began in Vienna, a city steeped in tradition, where his family had a rich history in the entertainment industry. Born in 1909, he was destined to follow in the footsteps of his ancestors, and indeed, he did. Alongside his brothers, Harry Wiere and Sylvester Wiere, Herbert formed the Wiere Brothers comedy act in 1922, a trio of talented individuals who were to become a household name in the world of entertainment.

As they honed their skills in music, dance, acrobatics, and comedy, the brothers' exceptional talents soon caught the attention of theatre and night club owners, who were eager to feature them as headliners on their stages. With their unique blend of skills, the Wiere Brothers quickly became a staple of the entertainment circuit, captivating audiences with their impressive performances.

Notable events in the life of the Wiere Brothers began in 1935, when they embarked on their inaugural journey to America, a country they would call home for the next two years. During their time in the United States, the brothers made a lasting impact on the film industry, appearing in a string of notable movies that showcased their impressive dancing and musical talents.

One of their most notable cinematic endeavors was Vogues of 1938, a 1937 film that marked their introduction to American audiences. The brothers continued to captivate viewers with their energetic performances in subsequent films, including Swing Shift Maisie (1943) and Hands Across the Border (1944).

Their dancing and music routine, which had become a hallmark of their act, was perhaps best captured on film in the 1947 movie Road to Rio, starring the legendary comedic duo Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. The Wiere Brothers' impressive screen presence and undeniable charm made them a beloved fixture of the American film scene.

The brothers' final film appearance was in the 1967 movie Double Trouble, starring the iconic rock and roll sensation Elvis Presley. Despite the passing of time, the Wiere Brothers' legacy as talented performers and entertainers continues to be celebrated to this day.

In the year 1960, the prestigious CBS television network entrusted a television series to the talented Wiere Brothers, which was aptly titled Oh! Those Bells, and initially directed by the renowned filmmaker Jules White, who was previously affiliated with the legendary comedy troupe "Three Stooges".

This television series premiered in the sweltering summer of 1962, but unfortunately, it failed to garner sufficient traction to warrant renewal beyond its inaugural season.

Despite this setback, the Wiere Brothers remained a prominent fixture in the entertainment landscape, continuing to perform in nightclubs and regularly appear on television throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and well into the 1970s, until the untimely passing of Sylvester Wiere in the year 1970.

As the years went by, Harry and Herbert Wiere, having bid a final farewell to their beloved colleague and friend Sylvester, gradually transitioned into a state of semi-retirement. However, they did not completely disengage from the world of entertainment, as they continued to make sporadic appearances in television and on stage.

Harry Wiere's life came to a close in the month of January, 1992. The stage was set for Herbert Wiere to continue on without his partner, albeit with a slightly more subdued pace, as he had opted for semi-retirement. Unfortunately, Herbert's time on this earth was also drawing to a close, and he eventually passed away in the year 1996, three years after Harry's passing.
