Ifan was born and raised in the picturesque village of Cilcain, nestled among the rolling hills of North Wales in the county of Flintshire. His early life was marked by a lack of interest in pursuing a career on the stage, as he initially aspired to become a pilot. However, this all changed after he took part in a school production of Shakespeare's 'Henry V', which sparked a newfound passion for the performing arts within him.
As a member of one of Britain's most renowned acting dynasties, Ifan's family background played a significant role in shaping his decision to pursue a career in acting. His grandfather, Meredith Edwards, was a frequent presence in many post-war British films, known for his lugubrious on-screen persona. His father, Ioan, and younger brother, Rhys, are also actors, making Ifan the latest in a long line of talented thespians.
In 1993, Ifan embarked on a three-year course at the prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama, where he gained widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Hal in Joe Orton's comedy 'Loot' upon graduation. Since then, he has appeared on stages throughout the country, taking on a diverse range of roles and also securing ongoing roles in TV series such as 'The Grand', 'Where the Heart Is', and 'Warriors'.
In 2012, Ifan brought his talents to the small screen once again, this time impersonating the heroic Fifth Officer Lowe in ITV's epic reconstruction of the 'Titanic' disaster.
