José, also known as Zé, is a talented actor who has been making a name for himself in the entertainment industry. His latest project is filming the TV series "Cacau" for TVI, where he is playing the co-protagonist. He has also been taking the stage as the co-protagonist in the play "A Andorinha / La Golondrina".
Under the direction of Pedro Almodovar, José starred in the film "Strange Way of Life / Estraña Forma de Vida", which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023. He has also appeared in the globally successful Netflix series "Turn of the Tide / Rabo de Peixe", where he played the protagonist Eduardo. The next season is set to arrive soon.
On the television front, José has portrayed the protagonists Amaro in the series "O Crime do Padre Amaro" (RTP) and David in "Bem Me Quer". He has also joined the casts of the series "A Filha", "Pôr do Sol", and "Até Que a Vida nos Separe".
José made his television debut in 2015 in the soap opera "Jardins Proibidos", followed by roles in "Santa Bárbara", "Rainha das Flores", "Espelho d'Água", "A Herdeira", and "O Valor da Vida". In 2019, he was part of the main cast in the Rede Globo (Brazil) novela "Salve-se Quem Puder/Run for Your Lives".
In the realm of theater, José has excelled in leading roles in plays such as "Peer Gynt", "Peter Pan", "As You Like it", "A Morte do Príncipe", "Peter and Alice", and "Romeu & Juliet". He has also participated in productions such as "Macbeth", "Splendid's", "The Brothers Karamazov", "Se Eu Não Fechar os Olhos", "Um Rapaz Chamado Rupert Partiu-te o Nariz com um Pau?" and "Penetrator".
In 2021, his portrayal of Hamlet, directed by Carlos Avilez, earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Theater Actor. In 2023, his performance as Padre Amaro, the protagonist of the series "O Crime do Padre Amaro", secured him the Golden Globe for Best Fiction Actor.
Recognized for his contribution to "O Som Que Desce da Terra", José received the DGArtes Award for Best Supporting Actor. His film credits include "Salgueiro Maia - The Implicated: The Series" and "Gabriel", where he played the antagonist.
José completed his Acting Course at the Escola Profissional de Teatro de Cascais (2012-2015).
