Kenneth Colley, a Manchester-born character actor, gained a cult following for his role as Admiral Piett in the Star Wars films. He started his acting career in repertory theatre as a general dogsbody, gopher, and assistant, before attending drama school.
Colley's professional career began in Leicester in 1961, followed by stints with the Old Vic, Royal Court Theatre, and Royal Shakespeare Company. He has played numerous historical figures, including Charles I, King Vittorio Emmanuele, and Admiral Horatio Nelson.
Colley has also appeared in various TV shows, including popular series such as Coronation Street, EastEnders, and Foyle's War. He has worked with director Ken Russell on several films, including The Music Lovers, Lisztomania, and Prisoner of Honor.
Colley has also been associated with the Monty Python crew, appearing in films such as Jabberwocky and Monty Python's Life of Brian. He has played numerous characters, including Michael Palin's bank robber pal in Ripping Yarns.
Colley has been married since 1962 and is currently residing in the market town of Hythe in Kent.
