Jay Jackson, an American creative force, has made a significant impact in the world of dance, drag, and cannabis rights activism. Under the stage name Laganja Estranja, he showcased his talents on the sixth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, ultimately finishing in eighth place. During his time on the show, Laganja gained recognition for his impressive performances, winning a challenge alongside eventual runner-up Adore Delano. Notably, his dramatic flair, memorable catchphrases, and emotional breakdowns made him a standout character.
Jay's work extends beyond the world of drag. He is a talented choreographer at Beyond Belief Dance Studio in Mesquite, Texas, which is owned by his drag mother, Alyssa Edwards. In 2016, Jay collaborated with friends to develop Laganja's Dance School, a hip-hop oriented jazz-funk choreography class and confidence workshop. This workshop is held in North Hollywood, California, and also tours internationally.
Jay's contributions to the world of music include providing vocals for a cover of RuPaul's "Jealous of My Boogie" on the album RuPaul Presents: The CoverGurlz in 2014. More recently, he made his debut on the popular television show So You Think You Can Dance (United States) on Fox on June 4, 2018, further solidifying his status as a versatile and talented performer.
