At the tender age of eighteen, Marcus's life took a drastic turn while engaging in a recreational climbing activity with friends. As he ventured higher, fate had other plans, and he found himself plummeting over one hundred feet, resulting in a catastrophic injury that left his back severely broken in multiple places.
The weeks that followed were a blur of hospital visits, medical procedures, and the crushing realization that his legs would never regain their former functionality. Yet, it was during this dark period that Marcus discovered an inner strength and resilience that would later inspire his first feature film, One Fall.
Two weeks after being discharged from the hospital, Marcus defied the odds and took his first steps towards a new beginning. This remarkable journey became the spark that ignited his passion for filmmaking, and he went on to form Compass Entertainment in 2008, a production company dedicated to crafting independent, character-driven films that would resonate with audiences worldwide.
In 2010, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) bestowed upon Marcus a great honor by adding his script for One Fall to its permanent collection. His contributions to the film industry didn't stop there; he has also written for The Wrap magazine and served as a guest lecturer on Entrepreneurship in the Film Industry at prestigious institutions such as Skidmore College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
In 2013, Marcus founded KidFears, a groundbreaking initiative designed to empower children to overcome their fears through the power of storytelling. This remarkable project has since made a significant impact on young lives, and Marcus continues to be a beacon of hope and inspiration for many.
Throughout his illustrious career, Marcus has served on the boards of several esteemed organizations, including the Yale School of Drama Board of Advisors, the Yale University Alumni Board, The Nantucket Theater Institute Board of Directors, and the Hyde Museum Board of Trustees.
Marcus's academic pursuits have been equally impressive, with degrees in English Literature, Philosophy, and Psychology from the Yale School of Drama.
