Matt Skollar was born in New York City, where his mother Haydee, a Panama native, and his father Stan, a New York native of Russian/Jewish ancestry, welcomed him into the world. This cosmopolitan background would later influence his artistic pursuits.
At a young age, Matt began to showcase his talents in various forms of performance, including acting, dancing, and singing. His first professional job, which he landed at the age of 10, was a significant milestone in his career. He played a young prince in an 8-week run of "The King and I," marking the beginning of his journey in the world of entertainment.
As he grew older, Matt's passion for the performing arts only intensified. He decided to put his higher education on hold to pursue his childhood dream, which led him to relocate to New York City once again. Matt was accepted into the prestigious New Actors Workshop, where he spent two years studying under the guidance of master teachers such as George Morrison, Paul Sills, and the late Mike Nichols.
The training Matt received at the New Actors Workshop was steeped in the principles of Stanislavski and improvisation. This emphasis allowed him to quickly establish himself as a talented young actor, and he soon found himself showcasing his skills in several off-Broadway plays. His impressive performances eventually caught the attention of the esteemed Abrams Artists Agency, which offered him a contract.
Throughout his career, Matt has made numerous guest appearances on popular prime-time shows, including Sex and the City (HBO),Law and Order SVU (NBC),Game of Silence (NBC),and MacGyver (CBS). He has also had a recurring role on the daytime drama One Life to Live (ABC) and has appeared in various indie films, including the Oscar-winning Best Picture, "The Artist," and "Beast Beast," which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.
On stage, Matt has performed in a two-man show at the NYC Fringe Festival and has also appeared at the prestigious Williamstown Theater Festival. In 2019, he relocated from Los Angeles to Atlanta to take advantage of the city's rapidly growing film industry.
To continue his studies, Matt enrolled in Nick Conti's Professional Actors Studio as an advanced student. His passion and experience in the performing arts have also led him to teach and mentor fellow performers at the Professional Actors Studio.
Since moving to Atlanta, Matt has co-written and co-starred in an indie original and award-winning TV production, "Outside the Perimeter," alongside fellow actors and colleagues Franco Castan and Scott Oakley.
