Notable character actor, distinguished by his unique persona, which diverged significantly from that of his father, Noah Beery, and his uncle, Wallace Beery.
Enrolled at Harvard Military Academy, he made numerous appearances in films and on stage alongside his father, prior to reaching adulthood.
At the tender age of 19, he commenced playing affable second leads and occasional leading roles, primarily in westerns, before establishing the pattern for much of his career: good-natured supporting roles, often portraying a pal of the hero.
Throughout his career, he continued to excel in such parts, gradually transforming into warm (or, occasionally, gruff) rustic sages, a persona he embodied well into his late 70s.
In his later years, he gained widespread recognition for his role as the father of the James Garner character on the popular TV series, The Rockford Files, which premiered in 1974.
He was married to the daughter of renowned cowboy star Buck Jones, and their son, Bucklind Beery, is also an actor. The couple had two daughters, Muffett and Melissa.
Sadly, Beery passed away in 1994 at the age of 81.
