Pete Chatmon is a multifaceted television director with an impressive range, having successfully navigated both half-hour single camera comedies and one-hour dramas. Throughout his career, he has directed an astonishing 65 episodes of television for various networks, including HBO, Showtime, Starz, Hulu, Netflix, Paramount Plus, CBS, ABC, and FX.
Some of his notable works include directing episodes of HBO's The Flight Attendant, Insecure, and Silicon Valley, as well as Showtime's Yellowjackets, Starz' Raising Kanan, Hulu's Interior Chinatown, Netflix's You and Dead Boy Detectives, Paramount Plus' Fatal Attraction, CBS's Ghosts and NCIS: Origins, ABC's High Potential and Grey's Anatomy, and FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He has also directed episodes of the Apple TV+ series Mythic Quest.
Chatmon's work has earned him an NAACP Image Awards Nominee for Outstanding Directing In A Comedy Series for his work on The Flight Attendant. He is currently in development on The Education of Matt Barnes, a project for which he will direct the pilot and serve as executive producer. Additionally, he served as co-executive producer and producing director on season one of Onyx Collective's Reasonable Doubt.
As a writer/director, Chatmon made his debut feature film, Premium, which starred Dorian Missick, Zoe Saldana, and Hill Harper. The film premiered on Showtime after a limited theatrical run. He also wrote, produced, and directed 761st, a documentary on the first Black tank battalion in WWII, narrated by Andre Braugher. Chatmon is currently in development on his next feature, a heist film entitled The Withdrawal, which follows a bank teller as he takes over a local bank and gives a small town a crash course in history, crime, and politics.
Chatmon's career began in 2001 with the Sundance selection of his NYU thesis film, 3D, starring Kerry Washington. His most recent short film, BlackCard, premiered on HBO. He has also created a narrative podcast, Wednesday Morning, which engaged voters around the 2020 election. Through his podcast, Let's Shoot! with Pete Chatmon, and his book, Transitions: A Director's Journey + Motivational Handbook, Chatmon continues to give back and educate the next generation of storytellers.
