Philip, the accomplished individual, is the proud son of William Harris, a dedicated Captain of the New York Police Department, and Sophia Muller, a compassionate school teacher. Born and raised in the Bay Ridge-Fort Hamilton section of Brooklyn, Philip's formative years were spent attending Fort Hamilton HS, where he discovered his passion for drumming at the tender age of 14.
In addition to his illustrious careers in acting, directing, and teaching, Philip still enthusiastically plays drums both live and on recordings. His academic pursuits led him to earn a degree in elementary education from SUNY Cortland, followed by a Master of Fine Arts in acting from the esteemed New York University School of the Arts.
Upon graduating, Philip's dedication to his craft never wavered, and he continued to work as an actor with unwavering persistence. One of his most notable roles was as Donald Maltby in Showtime's "Brothers," a groundbreaking and flamboyant character that marked a significant milestone in his career.
Philip's transition into directing was a natural progression, and he went on to direct numerous hit shows, including "Roseanne," "Frasier," "According to Jim," and many others, for a remarkable twenty-five-year span. Furthermore, he has established himself as a highly sought-after film acting teacher in the Los Angeles area.
In his personal life, Philip is married to the talented actress Alison LaPlaca, and the couple is blessed with one son.
