Richard Clabaugh is a multifaceted filmmaker and educator, renowned for his extensive work as a cinematographer and director in the realms of low-budget action and horror films. His professional journey commenced with stints in TV news and visual effects, before he solidified his reputation as a genre cinematographer on action and horror films such as The Prophecy (1995),featuring Christopher Walken, No Way Back (1995),starring Russell Crowe, American Yakuza (1993),with Viggo Mortensen, and Phantoms (1998),alongside Ben Affleck.
As his expertise in cinematography grew, Clabaugh transitioned to feature directing with the release of Python (2000). Shortly after, he took on a teaching position at the UNC School of the Arts, where he spent nearly a decade imparting his knowledge to aspiring filmmakers before departing to resume his full-time career in motion pictures and television.
Subsequently, Clabaugh established his own production company and co-wrote, produced, and directed the Sci-Fi film Eyeborgs (2009). To this day, he continues to teach, delivering lectures and online tutorials, while also producing and directing movies and TV shows. His wife, Fran Clabaugh, is an editor and frequent collaborator, sharing in his creative endeavors.
