Robert, the esteemed Executive Artistic Director Emeritus of Actors Theatre of Louisville, has been recognized for his groundbreaking leadership in the American Theatre. As a multifaceted artist, he has demonstrated exceptional versatility as a director, choreographer, writer, and actor, with an impressive repertoire of work in numerous leading resident theaters across the country.
Notably, Robert held the position of Director of Artistic Programming at Arena Stage from 2014 to 2016, and later served as Associate Artistic Director at Cleveland Play House from 2016 to 2019. His extensive list of credits includes collaborations with esteemed institutions such as The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The NYSF/ Public Theatre, The Mark Taper Forum, San Jose Rep, The Folger, The Guthrie, The La Jolla Playhouse, A Contemporary Theatre, The Old Globe, Perseverance Theatre, The Alabama Shakespeare Festival, South Coast Repertory, and The Goodman.
Robert's impressive stage presence has been showcased in various Broadway productions, including Stand-Up Tragedy and Ragtime, as well as the original production of George C. Wolfe's Jelly's Last Jam. Additionally, he served as an associate producer for the NYC revival of Tennessee Williams' The Two-Character Play, starring Amanda Plummer and Brad Dourif.
Furthermore, Robert has also been an esteemed educator, formerly holding the position of Associate Professor and Chair of the Theatre Arts and Performance Studies Department at the University of San Diego.
