Biography

Robert Duncan was born on July 27, 1952, in Cornwall, England, UK, and began his career as a journalist, working for the Cornish Reporter. He made his television debut in the ITV daytime drama "For Maddie with Love," starring alongside the late Nyree Dawn Porter and Ian Hendry. This early appearance led to guest spots in several prominent British series, including "Boon," "Eastenders," "The Bill," "London's Burning," and "Casualty."

After a successful appearance on "Casualty," Robert became a semi-regular in season 11, playing the role of Peter Hayes. He also had a major role in the made-for-television movie "Mr. White Goes to Westminster" in 1997. However, he will perhaps be best known for his hilarious portrayal of the hapless Chief Executive Gus Hedges on the double International Emmy Award-winning sitcom "Drop the Dead Donkey" in 1990.

In addition to his television work, Robert has a rich background in theatre, with credits including "Educating Rita," "Rough Crossing," "Twelfth Night," "Don't Dress for Dinner," "Having a Ball," "Time and Time Again," and "Henry IV." He has also had the opportunity to play some of his personal favorites, including Mr. Rochester in "Jane Eyre" and Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire."

On stage, Robert is a regular in pantomime, having appeared in productions such as "Dick Whittington," "Mother Goose," "Peter Pan," and "Jack and the Beanstalk," where he has played both the Dame and the villain. As well as being seen on stage and screen, Robert can frequently be heard on radio, having taken on the roles of Scumspawn in BBC Radio 4's "Old Harry's Game" and Mike in "Life, Death, and Sex with Mike and Sue."

In his free time, Robert is a keen sportsman and enjoys golfing, cricket, and attending Tottenham Hotspur football matches. He currently resides in Hertfordshire with his partner, former model and professional photographer Jean Havilland.
