Robert Michael Morris embarked on his Hollywood journey in 2005, leaving an indelible mark on the entertainment industry with his remarkable performances. His most notable role to date is playing Mickey in the critically acclaimed but short-lived series 'The Comeback' alongside Lisa Kudrow.
Morris' impressive resume boasts a wide range of notable guest appearances on popular television shows, including 'Will & Grace,' 'Arrested Development,' 'How I Met Your Mother,' 'Community Service,' 'The Class,' 'Brothers & Sisters,' 'Warren the Ape,' and 'Two Broke Girls.' His most recent creation is the character Truman DuBois in 'Lez Be Friends.'
Before venturing into the world of Hollywood, Morris followed an unconventional path. Born and raised in Kentucky, he joined the religious order The Society of Mary, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and art from the University of Dayton and an MFA in playwriting from the Catholic University of America, where he received a Shubert Fellowship in Playwriting.
Morris' journey took him on a twofold path, as he not only pursued his passion for acting but also honed his skills as a playwright. He twiced toured America with a classical theatre group, performing in productions such as 'A Midsummer Night's Dream,' 'The Bacchae,' 'Taming of the Shrew,' 'The Miser,' and 'The Trial.'
Along the way, Morris taught high school in various cities, including Pittsburgh, Memphis, Toronto, Cleveland, Washington, D.C., Downey, and San Gabriel, California, as well as college in Erie, Pennsylvania, and Urbana, Ohio. He also worked as a party decorator in New York City, a file clerk at Radio City Music Hall, a stage manager on Broadway's 'Cloud Nine,' and as a secretary to the esteemed producer Sydney Glazier.
Throughout his career, Morris has written an impressive 91 scripts, with some of his plays having received productions and awards. He has no preference for a particular style, and his work encompasses both comedies and dramas. His latest plays explore a range of topics, including a pedophile, a musical about Sarah Bernhardt, dreaming of Sal Mineo, Michelangelo's creation of the David, the Chapel of the Holy Rosary at Venice by Matisse, the 1981 murder of a transsexual in New York, and two one-woman shows: Anna Magnani and Alice Roosevelt Longworth.
Most recently, Morris received an award for his 10-minute play, 'Blood from a Stone,' which tells the story of a former Nazi camp guard and his daughter. His work is now published in 'Anthology 1: Plays from the Mind of Robert Michael Morris,' with three more anthologies planned, as well as his memoir 'I Had Breakfast with Yakima Canute.'
