Biography

Sally McLean has had a remarkably prolific theatrical career, with an impressive array of performances spanning the Australian, US, and UK stages and screens. Her extensive background in the performing arts began at the tender age of 10, when she joined a youth performing arts troupe and embarked on a tour of Australia, Holland, Switzerland, and the UK.

As a teenager, McLean transitioned to television and film, making appearances on esteemed Australian programs such as The Flying Doctors (1985),Bingles (1992),and Neighbours (1985). Her early work garnered recognition when she was nominated for 'Best New Talent' and 'Best Supporting Actress' at the 1990 MTGV Awards for her captivating portrayal of 'Ado Annie' in the stage version of Oklahoma.

In the early 1990s, McLean relocated to London, England, where she gained valuable experience behind the scenes, working for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in production. She then attended The Actors' Institute, London, graduating in 1996. This marked the beginning of a highly successful and diverse career in the UK theatre scene, with McLean taking on lead roles in a wide range of productions, including Uncle Vanya, Macbeth, Annabel's Requiem, Top Girls, and Hamlet.

In 1997, McLean brought all her experience and expertise together by launching her first film, A Little Rain Must Fall (1997),under the umbrella of her newly-formed production company, Incognita Enterprises, with Honorary Patron, Nigel Hawthorne. She returned to the Australian stage in the Australian premier of the off-Broadway hit, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, followed by the role of Marissa in Duncan Sarkies' Lovepuke.

Since then, McLean has appeared in numerous stage, television, and film productions, including Angie Powers in the BBC mini-series Bootleg (2002),Stacey in the ABC comedy series Utopia (2014),and three seasons with the Australian Shakespeare Company.
