Wolfgang Vater's illustrious career began in 1959 with a starring role in the film "Hubertus Jagd" alongside Willy Fritsch. Throughout the early years, he appeared in numerous television movies, gradually transitioning to the stage with his debut in Cologne's Theatre play "Der Tod im Apfelbaum". Vater's voice also became synonymous with dubbing foreign television series, including "Riffle man", "Flipper", and "Die kleinen Strolche", as well as lending his German voice to notable international actors such as Jean-Michel Vincent, Bruce Lee, and Mike Myers in "Shrek".
In 1972, Vater embarked on his first Theatre tour as "Masham" in "Glass of water" (by Eugen Scribe) alongside O.W. Fischer. Following the movie "Whispering death" (co-starring Christopher Lee and Trevor Howard),he ventured to Australia in 1976 to star in 13 episodes of the adventure television series "The Outsiders" alongside Andrew Keir and Wendy Hughs.
In the early 1980s, Vater played the titular role in Shakespeare's "As you like it" during the Salzburg Theatre Festival, sharing the stage with Barbara Sukowa. He continued to appear on stage throughout the 1980s and 1990s, starring in the television series "Das Traumschiff", embarking on a Theatre tour with Judy Winter's "Doppeladler", and starring in the television series "Die Schwarzwaldklinik". Vater also appeared in the film "Rich poor girl" alongside Farrah Fawcett.
In 1989, he brought Goethe's "Egmont" to life at Hamburg's Ernst Deutsch Theater. His last Theatre tour, "Die Katze auf dem heißen Blechdach" (as Brick),took place in 1994. The Feuilleton honored him with a special mention for his performance in "Lerchenberg" in 2012. In 2013, Vater reprised his role as Captain in "Das Traumschiff". In October 2014, he celebrated his 60th birthday and 55th anniversary as an actor.
