Born in Ireland and boasting Italian heritage, Sonya Macari embarked on a television commercial career in Dublin at the tender age of 18, prior to making her acting debut in the Irish hit show "The Clinic". This early success was soon followed by a recurring role on Showtime's critically acclaimed period drama "The Tudors", for which she also appeared in the global print campaign.
Since then, Sonya has resided between Dublin and Los Angeles, utilizing her success as a stage and screen actress in Ireland to take on a diverse range of roles. Some of her notable credits include appearances in popular television shows such as "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia", "House", and "Chuck", as well as the title role in the Hallmark channel's "Mary Magdalene". Additionally, she has played the role of Antonia, an Italian spy, in the hit NBC show "Chuck", and Francesca in the TV series "Caravaggio And My Mother The Pope".
Sonya has also ventured into feature films, starring in the ten-time Oscar-nominated silent movie "The Artist", as well as the lead role of Sara in the apocalyptic science fiction movie "Protocol", alongside Eric Lange. Furthermore, she has appeared in the film noir homage "Behind The Curtain", a festival favorite, and the fantasy thriller "Kiss the Devil in the Dark", starring alongside Doug Jones.
May 2023 saw Sonya receive the prestigious Best Actress award at the 8 & Halfilm Awards, an event held at the renowned Cannes Film Festival, for her role in the Irish short film "Skylark". In addition to her on-screen accomplishments, Sonya has also lent her voice to numerous commercials and has worked as a book narrator for Penguin Random House.
