Stan Foster's illustrious career spans multiple decades, with a diverse range of accomplishments in the entertainment industry.
Initially, he made a name for himself as an actor, starring in the Emmy-winning CBS television drama "Tour of Duty" for three seasons. This experience laid the groundwork for his transition to behind-the-scenes work.
Foster secured an overall development deal with Columbia Pictures Television, allowing him to write, produce, and create new content. This led to the development and sale of various sitcoms, dramas, and reality shows to numerous networks, including CBS, FOX, MTV, Comedy Central, USA Networks, UPN, Disney, Discovery Channel, and FremantleMedia.
One of his most notable adaptations was the stage production of TD Jakes' "Woman Thou Art Loosed", which he brought to the big screen and won an NAACP Image Award for. This project contributed significantly to the popularity of the genre.
As a feature writer-producer, Foster has worked on a wide range of films, including "Hoodrat" for Universal, "Hangman's Curse" for 20th Century Fox, "Manhood" for Lions Gate, "Preacher's Kid" for Warner Bros., "Car Wash 2" for Universal, and "My Other Mother" for UPtv.
In 2014, Foster directed the film "My Other Mother" for Uplifting Entertainment. He also directed the pilot episode of the Comedy Central comedy TV series "In The Cut" and wrote and directed an independent movie about the historical Azusa Street Revival.
In 2017, Foster launched the gospel musical "PK Resurrection", which introduced "Upstaged", a slate of classic urban films adapted for the stage, with live television and a national tour.
In 2018, Stan Foster Media partnered with Lionsgate to produce and distribute a film slate under his banner. This includes "Azusa Street Revival", "Bishop Mims", "Before I Forget - The B Smith Story", and the Upstaged live theater slate. Stan Foster Media has a current multi-picture output, distribution, and acquisition deal at Lionsgate.
Most recently, in 2021, Foster directed an episode of "Step Up Highwater" for the streaming service STARZ.
