Stephen Gallagher's television career began with a two-season stint on the BBC's iconic series Doctor Who. He then transitioned to writing and directing high-end miniseries and prime time episodic television, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the industry.
Gallagher's credits include the gene-splicing thriller Chimera, ITV's science drama series Eleventh Hour starring Patrick Stewart, and the CBS drama of the same name, which he contributed new episodes to alongside adaptations of the original stories. He was also the series developer and lead writer on NBC's Crusoe, and later joined ABC's crime show The Forgotten, starring Christian Slater, as a writer and co-executive producer.
In addition to his work in the United States, Gallagher has also worked on several British series, including the anthology show Chillers, the period detective drama Murder Rooms, and the BBC1 techno-thriller BUGS, on which he was also series consultant for three seasons. He adapted and directed his novel Oktober as an ITV miniseries starring Stephen Tompkinson, and contributed feature-length episodes to the crime drama Rosemary & Thyme.
Gallagher's work has earned him numerous accolades, including a European Science Award for Best TV Drama for his two-part story on the BBC's Silent Witness. He has also worked on Stan Lee's Lucky Man for Sky and has a number of credits in audio drama.
As a novelist, Gallagher has published thirteen books to date, including Down River, Rain, and Valley of Lights. He is also the creator of the Sebastian Becker series, which follows the adventures of a special investigator to the Lord Chancellor's Visitor in Lunacy. The series began with The Kingdom of Bones and The Bedlam Detective and continues in The Authentic William James. Gallagher has also seen publication of three collections of his award-winning short fiction.
