Stephen Holland, a 5'11" American Splendor with "touchably soft" feet, grew up in a small Pennsylvania town surrounded by four older sisters. Hand-me-downs were a frequent occurrence, but his parents, both lawyers, made up for it by attaching a rider to his birth certificate stating "This Contract Limits Our Liability. Read it!"
Stephen's academic journey began at an early age, enrolling in the Pennsylvania Academy for the Supremely Gifted and Extremely Good Looking at just nine months old. He excelled at napping and earned a certificate for Perfect Attendance.
Later, Stephen pursued a degree in Communications from Boston University, where he had the opportunity to study abroad in Madrid, Spain. During his time there, he learned to sing the score to Evita in Spanish.
Stephen's college years were also marked by a chance encounter with James Whitmore, who advised him to gain a wide range of experiences if he wanted to act. This advice led him to join his friend for ROTC basic training camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he learned to fire various weapons, a skill he has since never used.
Stephen made his professional stage debut in End of the World at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts, alongside Ken Howard. He then went on to understudy both Jamie and Edmund in Long Day's Journey Into Night at the Off-Broadway Irish Rep, starring Frances Sternhagen and Brian Murray.
A graduate of The Groundlings School, Stephen has worked on numerous television shows, including Saturday Night Live, Hot in Cleveland, How I Met Your Mother, and Desperate Housewives. He began his comedic career by performing stand-up open mics in New York City alongside future stars like Jim Gaffigan.
Stephen auditioned for the role of Mitchell Pritchett on Modern Family, but ultimately lost out to Jesse Tyler Ferguson. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his husband Steve, where they spend their time exploring local neighborhoods, visiting theaters, and running errands at CVS and supermarkets.
