Born in Eastern Europe, Steve Hawkes, also known as Hucks, embarked on a journey to America as a teenager, driven by his passion for acting and inspired by the iconic Johnny Weissmuller. He went on to play a Tarzan-like character in a series of Spanish-language films, with his character being referred to as "Tarzan" in Spain, but later rebranded as "Zan" when released in English-speaking territories, as seen in the 1969 film Tarzan in the Golden Grotto.
In 1972, Hawkes took on the lead role in the cult classic exploitation movie Blood Freak, where he transformed into a monstrous turkey. However, his acting career was cut short due to a severe on-set accident in the early 1970s, resulting in severe burns and ultimately leading to his retirement from the industry.
Today, Hawkes is fully retired and dedicates his life to running an animal sanctuary in Florida, a testament to his dedication to the well-being of all creatures.
