Tanmay Dhanania, a talented individual, was born in the vibrant city of Calcutta. He pursued his academic interests in Nuclear Engineering at the prestigious University of California at Berkeley, before shifting his focus to the world of acting. He received rigorous training at the renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA),honing his craft and preparing himself for a successful career in the entertainment industry.
Tanmay's early career saw him take on significant roles in various projects. He played Naseem Ali Khan in the critically acclaimed series Indian Summers (2015) and Ajay in the 2016 film Brahman Naman, which premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival and went on to become India's first Netflix Original. He also appeared as Prince Jeejeebuoy in The Durrells of Corfu and Phanishwar in Garbage, which premiered at the 68th Berlinale and is now available on Netflix.
In recent years, Tanmay has continued to impress audiences with his versatility and range. He starred in the award-winning film Cat Sticks, which won the jury award at Slamdance 2019 and is now available on Mubi. He also led the cast of Nazarband (Captive),which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival 2020 and earned him a nomination for the Best Actor award at the New York Indian Film Festival 2021.
Tanmay's impressive resume also includes his lead role in The Rapist, a film directed by Aparna Sen, which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival 2021 and won the Kim Jiseok Award. His Malayalam feature film debut, Nishiddho (Forbidden),won the KR Mohanan Award at the International Film Festival of Kerala and garnered Tanmay his second Best Actor nomination.
In addition to his film work, Tanmay has also appeared in several web series, including Made in Heaven on Amazon Prime, Zero Kms and Mafia on Zee5, and most recently, SCOOP by Hansal Mehta on Netflix. His latest project is the film The Shameless, directed by Konstantin Bojanov, which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival 2024.
