Tony "Bomber" Bellew, a former English professional boxer, earned his nickname due to his aggressive power punching style. Born in 1982, Bellew began his boxing career as an amateur, accumulating a 40-7 record before turning pro in October 2007.
As a professional, Tony trained at the Rotunda gym in Liverpool and was promoted by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport. He held the Commonwealth light-heavyweight title and boasted a professional record of 30 wins, 20 by KO/TKO, 3 losses, and 1 draw.
Bellew also held the WBC Intercontinental belt, which he claimed after stopping Colombian Edison Miranda in the 9th round at London's Alexandra Palace in September 2012. Throughout his career, Tony fought with a strong sense of identity, often wearing blue boxing trunks adorned with the badge of his beloved Everton F.C.
The Liverpool native also used the theme tune from Z Cars (1962) as his ring-walk music, mirroring the song played during Everton home games. In 2016, Tony headlined a show at Goodison Park, claiming the vacant WBC cruiserweight world title against Ilunga Makabu.
Following his retirement from boxing, Tony continued to be involved in the sport as an analyst and commentator for DAZN Boxing (2015),having previously worked in a similar role for Sky Sports World Championship Boxing (1989).
