Trevor W Baxter was a renowned British actor and playwright, born on November 18, 1932. He received his education at Dulwich College and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
Throughout his illustrious career, Baxter accumulated an impressive array of credits, including appearances in Adam Adamant Lives!, Z Cars, Maelstrom, Thriller, Spy Trap, The New Avengers, Jack the Ripper, The Barchester Chronicles, and Doctors. His most notable role was as Professor George Litefoot in the Doctor Who serial The Talons of Weng-Chiang in 1977. He reprised his role in the audio series Doctor Who: The Companion Chronicles: The Mahogany Murderers and went on to star in the continuing series Jago & Litefoot.
In addition to his television work, Baxter has had a successful stage career, performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company and in the West End. He toured Shakespeare in South America with Sir Ralph Richardson and appeared in the USA in David Mamet's A Life in the Theatre at Shakespeare Santa Cruz in 1986. His film credits include Nutcracker, Parting Shots, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj.
As a playwright, Baxter has written a number of plays, including Lies, The Undertaking, and Office Games. His play Ripping Them Off premiered at the Warehouse Theatre Croydon on October 5, 1990, directed by Ted Craig and designed by Michael Pavelka. The cast consisted of Ian Targett, Angus Mackay, Caroline Blakiston, Annette Badland, Frank Ellis, Ewart James Walters, Anthony Woodruff, Ian Burford, Richard Clifford, and C.P. Grogan.
In 2003, Baxter adapted Oscar Wilde's novella The Picture of Dorian Gray for the stage, followed by a touring version of Wilde's short story, Lord Arthur Savile's Crime, revived in January 2010 at the Theatre Royal Windsor, starring Lee Mead in the title role.
Throughout his career, Baxter continued to work with Big Finish Productions, recording Doctor Who audiobooks as Professor Litefoot, completing thirteen series. Sadly, Trevor W Baxter passed away in July 2017.
