In Mercier, Louisiana, a group of freshmen friends at Tate University attend an underground party in the woods, where they drink a spiced punch laced with ecstasy. After being drugged, one of the friends, Jason, is attacked and killed by mutant vampire bats. As the police investigate, they initially suspect the surviving friends, Aaron and Eden, but a biology professor named Maddy discovers that Jason was actually bitten by the bats. Maddy's research reveals that the bats were mutated by toxic waste dumped into the river by Carbide Waste Resources, leading to a battle to find the bats' lair and stop them. Along the way, Maddy uncovers corruption in the town.
