Katherine Clark, a successful Broadway songwriter, has found happiness teaching and leading a youth choir. The choir is preparing for its annual Christmas Eve fundraiser, but Katherine faces two last-minute setbacks. The commissioned title song writer has to withdraw, and Katherine must write the song herself, a task she thought she'd left behind. Additionally, the choir's star tenor falls ill, and Katherine finds a replacement in Danny, a young man interning for extra credit. Despite his natural talent, Danny has never sung in public and his father, Greg, a widowed architect, is hesitant to let him pursue singing, fearing it will distract from his college application.
