Zack Siler, a high school prom king, is dumped by his girlfriend Taylor, who falls for a TV soap star. In response, Zack claims any ordinary girl can be transformed into a prom queen with the right makeover. His friend Dean Sampson bets him that he can't, and Zack agrees to turn Laney Boggs, a geeky student, into the new prom queen. As Laney transforms, Zack begins to find her attractive, complicating the situation.
