Roy Rogers, posing as the Carson City Kid, seeks revenge against Morgan Reynolds, who killed his brother. To find Reynolds, Roy stops stagecoaches and searches for letters addressed to him. He earns a reputation as a stagecoach robber, traveling with notorious outlaw Laramie. When the posse captures Laramie, Roy's horse is shot and he is left behind. Laramie escapes and is taken to jail, where he is told he will be freed if he identifies the Kid.
