In the 1959 San Francisco night, a group of strangers with unresolved issues embark on a bus ride that ends in tragedy. Among them are Penny, a devoted mother; Julia, a waitress seeking love; Harrison, a shy singer; and Milo, a small-time thief. After their deaths, their souls become guardian angels to a young boy named Thomas Reilly. Years later, the four decide to become invisible to Thomas, but 30 years later, they return to find him struggling with his own life. They ask for his help in resolving their unfinished business, and in doing so, they all become better versions of themselves.
